~ February 27, 2024 - Presidential Primary Election News ~

The Presidential Primary Election will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024.  The polling location for city residents is the Ithaca Community Center located at 120 N. Maple Street, Ithaca.   Polls will be open from 7:00am until 8:00pm.  Any person in line at 8:00pm will be allowed to vote.

  • Not registered to vote and want to vote in this election? You must go in person to the City Clerk’s office as soon as possible but not later than 8:00pm on election day.  Proof of residency is required and photo ID should be presented.
  • Already registered, but changing your address? You have three options:

1) You must go to the City Clerk’s office and bring a document showing proof of residency (Driver’s license, paycheck, bank statement, current utility bill or another government document)

2) Vote at your old voting location one more time

3) Request an absent voter ballot from your previous city or township clerk

  • Absentee Ballots are available at City Hall, by mail-in or on-line application at Michigan.gov/vote.

City Hall hours are 8:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday, Special hours: Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 8:00am - 4:00pm.  Please bring photo ID.

The deadline to obtain an absentee ballot online or by mail is 5:00pm on February 23rd or in person at the Clerk’s office until 4:00pm on February 26th.  If you request an absentee ballot on the day before Election Day, you must vote the ballot in the clerk’s office.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the City Clerk’s office (City Hall) by 8:00pm on Election Day.  Do not return them to the polls.  Ballots may be returned by mail, drop box, or in person.  If you requested an absentee ballot, but have changed your mind and want to vote at the polls, you must surrender your ballot to the City Clerk.  Please contact the clerk’s office for more information at 989-875-3200 or clerk@ithacami.com.

Register to Vote

Are you a registered voter for the City of Ithaca?

You can register to vote at City Hall, the Gratiot County Clerk's office or at any Secretary of State office or State online system. You must be a citizen of the United States, 18 years or older, and your permanent address must be in the City of Ithaca.  Persons who are 17 years of age and will turn 18 between the last day to register to vote and Election day, may register to vote in the election, but must do so prior to the close of the last day to register.

Voters who find it difficult to attend the polls, may vote by absentee or request to be placed on the permanent absentee list.   Placing yourself on the permanent absentee list will ensure that an absentee ballot application will be sent to you for each election.

It is then your choice to file it or vote at the polls.

Absentee Voting

Absentee voting is available to registered voters who qualify for an absentee ballot under Michigan law.   The City of Ithaca also maintains a permanent absentee voting list for voters who qualify and would like the application automatically mailed to them for each election.
To obtain an absentee ballot, contact the City Clerk or Deputy Clerk to file an application.  Applications are also available online at michigan.gov
Voters in need of an absentee ballot request one by doing the following:

Your request for an absentee voter ballot must be in writing and submitted to your city clerk. Absentee applications may be obtained from the local clerk, County Clerk, Secretary of State office or online at www.mi.gov/vote.  Requests to have an absentee voter ballot mailed to you must be received by the City Clerk no later than 2 p.m. the Saturday before the election.

You must be a registered voter to receive an absentee ballot. Requests for absentee voter ballots are processed immediately. Absentee voter ballots may be issued to you at your home address or any address outside of your city residence.
Absentee ballots may also be obtained by making application in person at the Ithaca City Hall.  Photo identification or a signed affidavit of identity is required to obtain a ballot.
Ithaca City Hall is open special hours prior to any election from the for absentee ballot requests and registering to vote.  Voters needing to obtain an absentee ballot on the Monday before the election, must do so in person at Ithaca City Hall between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm.
