The Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for multiple things in the City of Ithaca. Just to list a few:
 
The water and sewer systems, such as water metering, wastewater collection, water distribution, maintenance of hydrants, installation of new water services and water tapping, hydrant flushing, water samples, maintenance of wells and lagoons, sewer and catch basin cleaning, drainage work, community center and parks maintenance and cleaning, mowing of roadsides, parks, cemetery, city hall, library, fire hall, fairgrounds, lagoons and various city properties, cleaning and reconstruction of our city streets, street work, street sweeping, cold patch the streets, parking and street painting, street sign repairs and replacements, snow removal, general care of summer flowers, tree trimming and removal program, equipment maintenance, brush pile maintenance at north end of cemetery, and caretakers of the cemetery.
